A pupil of Louis Pasteur and Émile Roux, our company's founder, Marcel Mérieux, established Institut Mérieux in 1897.
Subsequently, his son, Dr. Charles Mérieux, and, later, his grandson, Alain Mérieux, led Institut Mérieux, to become a world leader in the field of human and veterinary vaccines.
In 1994, the family decided to focus on diagnostics and immunotherapy, thus divesting the vaccine business (sold to Rhône Poulenc/Sanofi).
In 1997, a major investment in Silliker Labs gave birth to Mérieux NutriSciences.
Biofortis, a leading clinical research and analytical lab focusing on microbiota analysis in Nantes, France, was acquired in 2009.
In 2010, Mérieux NutriSciences acquired Provident Clinical Research in Addison, Illinois, which was renamed to Biofortis Research.
Today, along with our global locations, Biofortis Research has successfully completed 400 clinical studies. Many of these studies were pivotal for the development of new ingredients, foods, dietary supplements and nutrition programs.
